Since i am new to this blogging thing, i really wanted to put something up for Christmas but I couldn't get an inspiration to write. Finally, on the night of 25th when i sat for dinner with 10 other people it struck me.
I started wondering what Christmas was about for me, as an individual. Now i ain't Christian so that leaves out the holy part of it. But then i ain't Muslim either but i still get my Kheer on Id.
It was then i realized that this Holi, Diwali, Id, Christmas, Thanksgiving and all the other festivals that my folks back home get together for aren't just celebrated cause our religion directs us to. (Hell! I remember we once burst crackers on the Chinese new year ;) )
They are a means of escape!
An escape from the daily, tiresome routine and boring life... an escape from the "Normal"! Nobody remembered "the joys of sharing" , "the excitement of giving" or even "the gift of life"! those were just random words on random books.... naah! what we felt that day was pure, simple freedom! We celebrated a simple day of escape! We celebrated an opportunity to share it with other folks just like us! and above all We celebrated life!
and i guess that is what all such festivals are for..... these are days when we forget all our woes and troubles and for one day enjoy the life that has been gifted to us.... a day to be "thankful for" an opportunity to experience this life... and i figure that is the truest form of ----- :-)
